  3. Record total distance covered in meters

  2. Record distance and time for each trial
  3. Allow full recovery between trials (different days preferred)

Formula: CS ≈ (D₂ − D₁) ÷ (T₂ − T₁)

How to Test

VO₂max (vVO₂max) Field Test

This 6-minute test helps you estimate your vVO₂max pace.

  1. Warm up 10–15 minutes, include 3–4 strides.
  2. Run 6 minutes all-out but evenly paced on track.
  3. Calculate: vVO₂max speed = distance (km) ÷ 0.1
  4. Example: 1.80 km ÷ 0.1 = 18.0 km/h = 3:20 pace

Critical Speed (CS) Field Test

CS is a strong field proxy for your threshold.

  1. Perform 2–3 all-out time trials (3–12 min).
  2. Calculate: CS ≈ (D₂ − D₁) ÷ (T₂ − T₁)
  3. Use CS to anchor threshold training (≈92–98% of CS).
